My first semester in the OR I was able to observe a transplant of the deepest layers of the cornea through a newer thread-and-pull-through method. I learned the usefulness of older sketches I had simply done for fun at the time - I was given the opportunity to view and sketch a colleague’s iris using a slit lamp, and ended up using my sketch as a reference in creating the iris in this illustration.
